When you think of an engagement session you probably don't imagine spending the morning hiking around your favorite state park or swimming with your partner at sunrise. When you think of hiking around your favorite state park you probably don't imagine doing it in a suit and designer gown either. Rachel and Matt's adventurous engagement session totally went against the grain of what a typical engagement session might be like and the results are freakin' stunning.
When Rachel first reached out to me she mentioned that she wanted to have an engagement session in a beautiful outdoors location, preferably somewhere with a desert vibe, and that she wanted their outfits to be far from casual. Immediately I had the perfect location in mind and got to work getting reservations and permits for the session. I had been dying to get a couple in the water during a session for a while and I knew that, even though it would be sunrise, the Texas heat in formal attire would be no joke. So I figured an end of session dip in the lake would be perfect and pitched the idea to Rachel. She LOVED the idea and was just as stoked about it as I was! I love when couple's trust my vision and get excited about ideas I bring to the table! Sessions that turn into creative collaborations with couples truly make me feel ALIIIVE. Rachel and Matt were so much fun to work with, it honestly just felt like a morning hike with new friends. We talked about travels, our favorite hikes and what it's like running our own businesses. They hiked around in their formal attire like it was nothing, which is pretty impressive given that the landscape was very rocky and uneven. We spent the sunrise exploring little pockets of desert flora, avoiding running into cactus and ended the session with a dip in the water! Seriously the best way to spend an engagement session. I always like to recommend that couples choose an activity that they like to do together for their engagement session. It tells more of your story and captures what is unique about the two of you. Plus your session becomes more of an experience and memory than a curated posing fest. I'm all about capturing you doing things like hiking, going to your favorite breweries, plant shopping or sitting at home eating pizza and playing Mario Kart. Just like your wedding day, your engagement session should have YOU written all over it.
